Jimi Cohen broke the world record by planting 30,469 mangroves in 24 hours with his own two hands. After his talk, audiences leave knowing what public, physical action feels like, how Treegens verifies and rewards planting, and how they can mobilise their own people. The world record

30,469 mangroves. 24 hours. One planter.

On Earth Day 2024, on the coast of Kwale County in Kenya, Jimi planted from one sunrise to the next and set the official world record for the most mangrove trees planted by an individual in 24 hours, beating the previous record by more than 7,000 trees.

The record was never the finish line. Jimi went on to collaborate with the Kenya Scouts Association and Truphena on a second record, the most mangrove trees planted simultaneously. Now he is on a mission bigger than both: getting one billion trees planted in 24 hours.

Founder and CEO

Treegens: where planting trees pays off.

Jimi founded Treegens to turn reforestation into a movement anyone can join and everyone can trust. Planters film every tree going into the ground, the community verifies each planting, and verified work earns real rewards.

Proof of Plant

Every planting is filmed with GPS on, so each tree is backed by evidence, not promises.

Verified by community

Independent verifiers with skin in the game review the footage and vote before any reward is released.

Rewarding by design

Verified planters earn on-chain rewards, turning environmental action into opportunity for communities worldwide.

About

Raised by a koala advocate. Built for the wild.

Jimi grew up in Avalon, Australia, where his mother's work protecting local koalas taught him early that one determined person can bend the future of an ecosystem.

That lesson became a life. Through We Make Impact, he worked on water security and community development projects. Then came the trees: founding Treegens, pioneering verified, rewarded planting across East Africa and beyond, and putting his own body on the line for a 24 hour world record on the Kenyan coast.

Today he splits his time between the mud of mangrove sites, the mic of the Eco Champions podcast, and stages around the world, all in service of one idea: regeneration should be the most rewarding work on Earth.

"Every tree I plant is dedicated to the people who believe this is possible. The record was never mine, it belongs to everyone who digs in."
